Format of the Workshop

The workshop (total of 4 full days and one extra evening session) will be organized into one general Introductory evening session (arrival day), 5 plenary sessions with talks of 10, 15 or 25 min each depending of the topic and of the eminence of the speaker. Except for the last day (because of the evening banquet), each evening session will be devoted to more relaxed and informal, possibly round-table discussions about evolutionary relationships between enzymes that were presented in the morning talks and in the afternoon poster sessions.

Each speaker will be asked to highlight the overlapping interests of structural and molecular biologists/biochemists studying one or the other enzymes of the RNA and the DNA modification-editing machinery. The discussion/questions time will be limited to 3-5 min maximum, taking into account of the possibility to extend the discussion during the three afternoon poster sessions (4 hours each), as well as in the evening more informal sessions. Discussions about possible new developments and perspectives for further interactive collaboration works between DNA- and RNA-oriented researchers will be favored.

Beside the oral talks by 20-25 invited speakers, additional speakers will be selected from those who will apply to attend the workshop before the dead line of March 15, but sooner is best. This will be done essentially on the basis of the quality of their published works in the field of DNA and/or RNA modification-editing enzymes, on their abilities to give good comprehensive lectures and, very important to us, their willingness to listen to all talks, discuss with participants at the poster sessions and their guarantee of stay during the whole four days of the workshop. All other participants will be asked to present their work by posters. Each poster will remain on board during the four days of the workshop. An abstracts book will be provided at the registration desk of the Workshop in Aussois. It will include a summary of all the oral and poster presentations during the Workshop (expected to be about 100). THey will be accessible on the WEB about 2 weeks before the start of the workshop (beginning September 2007).

Duration of the Workshop

Four full days (not including 2 opening Lectures in the evening of the arrival day). Registration in Aussois will start on Tuesday September 11, 2007 from 2 pm. Scientific program will end Saturday Sept 15, 2007 at 8 pm. It will be followed by a banquet. Sunday September 16, after breakfast will be the leaving day.

Pre-registration will OFFICIALLY start October 1, 2006.

Aussois (Savoie-France) is located on a small plateau over the Maurienne valley, south-east of France, in the nice neighboring of the mountains of Savoie (‘altitute 1500 meters’, nearest peak at 2750 meters). It is located nearby Chambery and Annecy, which connects France and Italy. It is easily accessible by train (TGV) or buses from Paris (700 km), Lyon (220 km), Grenoble (140 km), Marseille (341 km), Geneve in Switzerland (191 km) and Turin in Italy (123 km). The closest train station in the valley is Modane (7 km).

The Center Paul Langevin in Aussois is a CNRS-vacation centre, but it is also designed for workshops and conference outside the school vacation period. It is a well-known place for organizing a convivial workshop with up to a maximum of 190 participants (some of the Gordon Research Conferences also held at the same place). The poster area is spacious and well lit. Everyone will be housed on the same site and all the meals will be taken together in the same dinning room. The main lecture room and the rooms where the posters will be presented are close by the same building.

Free time will be available after the lunch for further informal contacts at the poster session between participants (from 2 pm to 7 pm each day, except  the fourth day). Excursions and bus tours to the Parc National  Vanois (French National hiking park and nature reserve) and the Haute Maurienne (an archaeological site) can be easilly arranged (at the cost of the participants). There is a frequent bus service to Modane, which is a larger town to explore for shopping and walking around.
